EFL Cup: Manchester United cruises past Crystal Palace

Coming off the back of that slim victory inspired by Bruno Fernandes strike over Vincent Kompany’s Burnley last weekend in the Premier League, Manchester United looked to start their campaign in the EFL Cup on a high as they hosted Roy Hogson’s Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Erik Ten Haag made seven changes to the team that won at Turf Moor over the weekend giving new signing Sofian Amrabat his first start this season.

United started the game on the front foot proving to be very detrimental to the Crystal Palace side who managed a draw against Fulham over the weekend.

Former United goalkeeper, Dean Henderson saw his return to Old Trafford short lived as he was withdrawn in the 19th minute of the encounter.

Manchester United however drew first blood in the 21st minute through Argentine winger Alejandro Garmacho’s strike from Diogo Dalot’s cutback.

Mason Mount finally put his United career back on track as he got an assist for Manchester United’s goal coming from Casemiro’s bullet header after Mason Mount delivered a beautiful corner kick into the 18 yard box.

United remained dominant in the first half as Palace failed to register a single shot on target.

The second half soon got underway and barely 10 minutes in Antony Martial wrapped up the win for the Red Devils and put the game to bed.

He was however withdrawn for Rasmus Højlund in the 74th minute and Johnny Evans Daniel Gore and Donny Van De Beek were also given few minutes.

This win over Crystal Palace saw André Onana keep his third clean sheet of the season after United put out an impressive performance to start their title defence on a good note.
