Tobi Amusan; Analytical Facts Of Nigeria's Sprinter Provisional Suspension

Nigeria’s Sprinter, Tobi Amusan has been provisional suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for missing three test over the past 12 months.

The AIU confirms that it has today charged and provisionally suspended Tobi Amusan (NGR) for 3 Whereabouts Failures.

Tobi, who is the 100m hurdles world record holder however said she is not guilty of any offence.

Her charge will however be heard by the Disciplinary Tribunal with her fate been determined before the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungry.

Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS) coordinates and simplifies anti-doping activities.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has an obligation, under the World Anti-Doping Code (Code), to coordinate anti-doping activities and to provide tools to assist stakeholders with their implementation of the Code.

ADAMS is designed to be a secure and cost-free web-based system that centralizes doping control-related information such as athlete whereabouts, testing history, laboratory results, the Athlete’s Biological Passport (ABP), Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs), and information on Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs).

Who uses ADAMS and why?

ADAMS is used by athletes, Anti-doping Organizations (ADOs), and their delegates, and WADA-accredited laboratories and WADA-approved laboratories for the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) to support their day-to-day responsibilities related to anti-doping.

For athletes, ADAMS is used for submitting their whereabouts. ADAMS can also be used for athletes to manage the application and recognition of TUEs.

ADAMS allows ADOs to coordinate and manage:

1. Athletes under their jurisdiction, including accessing Athlete whereabouts
2. Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE)
3. Test Planning and Execution
4. Results Management
5. Athlete Biological Passport (ABP)

ADAMS is essential for laboratories and Athlete Passport Management Units (APMU) reporting and interpreting results.

ADAMS facilitates paperless doping control (sample collection) through the DCO Central app.

The module supports;
1. Athlete Notification Form
2. Doping Control Form (DCF)
3. Chain of Custody
5. Unsuccessful attempt (related to Whereabouts)
Athlete refusal
6. Doping Control Officer (DCO)
7. Report

With information from ADAMS, the ITO (International Testing Organisation) can send its agent to test you at any time. All they do is go to where you say you will be.

“If you are not there, it’s a failed test and they notify you. If you are absent 3 times in a year, it’s a strike – an anti-doping violation.”

Under the AIU rules, three missed tests are taken as failed drugs test and can lead to a two-year ban from all World Athletics and IOC media competitions.

A full punishment will mean Tobi Amusan will miss the world championships in Hungary and the Olympics in Paris.
