Drama at Stamford Bridge as Palmer's late penalty ensures Chelsea hold Man City to a draw in entertaining eight goal thriller

There was all to play for as Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea took on the table toppers Manchester City in their last game before the November international break.

The Blues were hoping to end their losing streak of six games on the stretch without seeing the back of the net against City as they hosted the defending Champions in their 12th premier league game this season.

Both teams showed good attacking intent but neither was able to break through due to defensive brilliance from the the teams in the first 10 minutes of the game.

The first shot on target however came in the 17th minute of the encounter as Julian Alvarez played a fantastic corner kick which was headed goalwards by Gvardiol but fell comfortably for Sanchez.

Chelsea however had one of their own two minutes later as Conor Gallagher played a dipping shot towards Ederson after a blocked cross by Enzo Fernandez,but it was saved calmly by the Brazilian shot stopper.

The game refused to slow down on its tempo as Bernado Silva whipped in a delicious cross from the left hand side but Haaland was brought down by Marc Cucurella and the referee had to choice but to point to the spot for a penalty to City.

As you would have it, Norwegian goal machine, Erling Braut Haaland stepped up and made no mistake in slotting the ball past Sanchez for his first goal against Chelsea.

Chelsea refused to die down as Reece James put in a beautiful freekick which was just tipped over by Ederson.

However, Chelsea restored parity from the resulting corner kick as Conor Gallagher whipped a ball in and Thiago Silva made a clever run into the box to head beyond the reach of Ederson to become only the fourth different player to score a Premier League goal while aged 39 or older, along with Teddy Sheringham, Dean Windass, and Ryan Giggs.

Man City were close to regaining the lead through Phil Foden as he switched feet fired a curler which was just off the mark.

Chelsea then smelled blood and went for it as Former City player,Raheem Sterling combined with City academy graduate, Cole Palmer to give his side the lead after the young attacker played a throughball for skipper Reece James to pull a cut back which Sterling made no mistake in placing beyond Ederson to take the blues into the lead.

Haaland was close to grabbing a first half brace as Bernado Silva played in a cross into the box which Haaland controlled calmly before hitting it just wide of the mark.

City however came back into the game after a poor defensive display by Chelsea resulting from a Bernado Silva corner kick which Manuel Akanji headed into the back of the net,unmarked to restore parity once again.

The first half hence ended in a two-all draw.

Erling Haaland however got his brace barely two minutes into the restart as Phil Foden made a brilliant run down the right with Cucurella affording him so much space before he plays a pass for Alvarez who plays a cross for Haaland to slot in his second of the game.

Man City however tried to add a fourth very early but Sanchez was up to the task.

Cole Palmer almost had a brilliant lone goal as he drove past four City defenders,cutting through on goal before his flick was saved by Ederson.

City then slowed down the pace of the game as they enjoyed spells of Possession.

Mauricio Pochettino made an attacking change as he brought on Mykailo Mudryk for Enzo Fernandez,Reece James also saw his game short-lived as he was withdrawn for Malo Gusto in order to preserve him from injury.

Chelsea were so close to grabbing the lead when Raheem Sterling played Malo Gusto on but the full back could only sky it and flop his lines much to the relief of the City players.

Matteo Kovacic made his return to Stamford Bridge 11 minutes to the 90 as he came on for Julian Alvarez who had an assist for Erling Haaland’s second goal.

Four minutes to the end of regular time,City retook the lead after Matteo Kovacic had a shot on goal which was blocked but Rodri had another go and Thiago Silva’s attempted block took it beyond Sanchez for the seventh goal of the game.

City looked home and dry and set for another win but substitute Armando Broja came in on the action and won a penalty for the blues after being crumbled by Ruben Dias.

City academy graduate, Cole Palmer showed no mercy on his former side as he hit a well taken a penalty beyond Ederson to steal the valuable point for the blues even though Ederson went the right way.

The game then ended in a four- all draw with an entertaining display from both teams and managers.

This game was the first time Chelsea both scored and conceded 4+ goals in a league game since March 2008 v Tottenham (4-4), the first time Man City did so since January 1961 v Arsenal (4-5), and first time the pair did so against one another in the league since December 1956 (5-4 to Man City).
