Wimbledon Open 2023; Svitolina, Vondrousova Marches On
Ukranian star, Elina Svitolina stunned world No one, Iga Swiatek to reach a second Wimbledon semis.
Svitolina, world No. 76 knocked out the WTA top ranked player Iga Swiatek in 3 sets 7-5, 6-7, 6-2.
The 28-year-old mother of one who reached the final eight after defeating Victoria Azarenka needed a top notch performance to send Swiatek packing.
She took the first set in a tie breaker 7-5, lost the second set in another tie breaker 6-7 before rounding off a dominating third set 6-2 to edge out the four time Grand Slam winner.
Svitolina will now face unseeded Marketa Vondrousova who herself edged out America’s Jessica Pegula in three sets 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the first quater final match to reach a first ever Wimbledon semifinal.
